NBC Fires Donald Trump Over Comments About Mexican Immigrants
By Jacob Wagner
Donald Trump, a presidential hopeful and billionaire who would have us believe he’s not being controlled by his hair, has just been fired by NBC.
Trump’s recent inflammatory comments on Mexican immigrants has now given NBC the best reason to wash their hands of him.
American Spanish-language network Univision was even quicker to drop Trump when he said during his candidacy speech two weeks ago:
“The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems. When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems [with them]. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
This week, NBC formally announced that they will be cutting all ties with Trump, mostly affecting the national broadcasts of “Miss USA,” “Miss Universe” and “Celebrity Apprentice.” The beauty pageants will no longer air on NBC, and “Celebrity Apprentice” will most likely continue without Trump, the network explained in a statement.
“At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values.
Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.
To that end, the annual Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants, which are part of a joint venture between NBC and Trump, will no longer air on NBC .
In addition, as Mr. Trump has already indicated, he will not be participating in ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ on NBC.”
Trump has since defended himself by accusing the media of distorting his comments.
“I am personally offended by the mainstream media’s attempt to distort my comments regarding Mexico and its great people. I have many successful business relationships with Mexican companies and employ, and am close friends with, many Mexican people … I do great with Latino voters. I employee so many Latinos, I have so many people working for me. The Latinos love Trump, and I Iove them.”
