This year’s Miss Universe Vietnam received a slew of submission at the beginning of last month to choose a national costume to be worn by this year’s Vietnam representative, Hoang Thuy.
The Facebook page emphasized that the sketches should tell a story in its design. The contest will go until June 15 and the winning design will be chosen by the 27-year-old supermodel alongside the judges and the public.
One of the submitted sketches is an alter-inspired piece that has raised a few eyebrows. Designer Pham Quang Minh drew a picture frame around the head, a bowl of incense at the hip and an offering of food at the rear that potentially relates to Vietnamese worship. Some Facebook users commented that the sketch might have been too much.
