The Ohio woman accused of
Mingming Chen, 29, entered her plea in a court hearing on Tuesday, the Associated Press reported (via WKYC).
Her daughter, Ashley Zhao, was found dead in their family’s restaurant, Ang’s Asian Cuisine, in Jackson Township, Stark County, Ohio, on Jan. 10.
Chen has since been charged with murder, endangering children, gross abuse of a corpse, obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.
Authorities claim that she pummeled her daughter several times in the head and left her to die.
Chen’s husband, Liang Zhao, claimed that he discovered their daughter’s body and attempted to revive her through CPR, but failed.
Zhao pleaded guilty to charges of obstructing justice and gross abuse of a corpse in September. The murder charge against him was dismissed.
Both falsely reported that their daughter was missing on Jan. 9, with Chen claiming that she last saw her around 5:00 p.m. on the same day.
“The child was purposely hidden in that building where she would not be located. We received information from the parents that helped us locate the body,” Jackson Township Police Chief Mark Brink said (via WOIO).
The couple’s trials continue.
