Miki Sudo, 36, won Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on Monday for the eighth time, continuing her reign as a top-ranking competitor after last year’s hiatus.
Sudo has been competing in Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest since 2014 and has won first place each year she has competed. The 36-year-old sat out from last year’s competition as she was pregnant with her first child, a son named Max, choosing instead to commentate for the event for ESPN.
“I didn’t know how difficult it might be to compete after having a child,” Sudo told ESPN before the competition. “Max is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, and Nathan’s is second.”
She returned to this year’s competition and claimed her eighth title, eating 40 hotdogs and buns during the 10-minute event. Sudo led the entire competition, eating 10 hotdogs by the minute-forty mark.
The winner of last year’s competition, Michelle Lesco, came in second place.
Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest is held each year on Independence Day at Nathan’s Famous Corporation on Coney Island, New York.
Sudo has been the Major League Eating’s top-ranked female food competitor since 2014 and has won various other competitions including the Foxwoods World Turkey Eating Championship and the Western Days Festival World Tamale Eating Championship in 2015.
Sudo is currently engaged to Nick Wehry, who is also a competitive eater. The two are often referred to as “The Hungry Couple” and have competed in several competitions and challenges, including a Krispy Kreme doughnuts challenge where Sudo and Wehry each ate 50 and 51 doughnuts, respectively.
