Michelle Yeoh has joined the cast of the upcoming film “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.”
On Tuesday, director Steven Caple Jr. announced in an Instagram post that Yeoh and Pete Davidson of “Saturday Night Live” fame will both have voice roles in the newest installment of the film franchise based on the popular Hasbro toy line.
“Rise of the Beasts” continues the ages-long saga of a war between robot factions by introducing three new groups — the Primals, the Predacons and the Terrorcons — in a globe-trotting adventure set in the ‘90s.
Yeoh and Davidson are slated to voice Air Razor and Mirage, respectively. Air Razor appears to be an adaptation of the character Airazor, who transforms into a peregrine falcon and is described by Caple Jr. as “the heart of the Maximals.” Mirage is an Autobot specializing in stealth and espionage who transforms into a Porsche 911.
Longtime Transformers director Michael Bay is attached as a producer, and Peter Cullen will roll out once again as the Autobot leader Optimus Prime. Rounding out the cast are Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, who play a pair of archeologists and serve as the film’s human leads, and Ron Pearlman, who will voitce the leader of the Primals, Optimus Primal.
“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” is scheduled to release in theaters on June 24.
