“When you look at the live music landscape in the US, there is not a meaningful number of tentpole music festivals that cater to the API community,” Grace Chen, founder of Graceful Media, told NextShark over email about the event. “When people talk about representation, it’s often about us fighting to get a seat at the table, to be part of the conversation and to push for our voices to be heard.”
She added: “While it’s important to continue to fight for inclusion, it is also in that fighting spirit that I thought we should take charge and build our own table. There is so much Asian excellence across music and pop culture, and bringing it together in one event on the East Coast just seemed to make sense. I approached Barclays Center and Live Nation with the idea, and they shared and believed in my vision, so here we are! Our strength and impact can be felt and heard when we show up.”
Paired with the festival is the MetaMoon Food Crawl starting on Nov. 1. In partnership with nonprofit Gold House, foodies will have the opportunity to support local Asian businesses and restaurants around New York. Establishments such as Nom Wah Nolita, 886, Ho Foods, Yumplings and more will be participating. Together, the restaurants and MetaMoon Festival will make a donation to Heart of Dinner, a nonprofit organization combating food insecurity and isolation within New York City’s elderly Asian community.
Opening on the day of the festival is the MetaMoon Market, which will feature a host of AAPI-founded brands, including Lunar, Popadelics, Kitsby, Regroup, Frontman, Moshi and more.
“Live Nation is committed to creating endless opportunities to connect artists of all genres and backgrounds with their fans,” said Geoff Gordon, regional president of Live Nation Northeast. “The inaugural MetaMoon Music Festival will inspire and create new and exciting opportunities for many of today’s Asian artists, from both here and abroad, to shine brightly, and engage their fans in this epic and unforgettable event.”

Tickets to the MetaMoon Music Festival can be purchased on SeatGeek.
