A beautiful and talented Filipino teen is making waves in the Korean entertainment scene and is now being eyed as the next K-Pop sensation.
Fresh off her jaw-dropping performance in the hit reality show K-Pop Star, 17-year-old Kriesha Tiu, also known as Chrisha Choo, impressed the show’s judges not only for her remarkable voice and singing prowess but also for her fluency with the Korean language, Koreaboo reported.
Originally from Cebu, Philippines, Choo was discovered by Korean talent agency Urban Works ENT while she was in San Francisco, California. As the company’s new trainee, Choo was flown to Korea where she studied the language at a Korean institute. She was also given workshops to further hone her singing skills.
In her memorable audition for the sixth season of the popular talent search K-Pop Star, Choo wowed audiences with her rendition of the song “I Don’t Love You” by Urban Zakapa and displayed her dancing skills in Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend”.
The competition’s judges, YG Entertainment’s Yang Hyun-suk, JYP Entertainment’s Park Jin-young, and Antenna Music’s You Hee-yeol, all praised Choo for her performance. Yang even stated that he wants to sign the talent with his company immediately.
“I wanted to take her from day 1, but now I want to meet up with her CEO,” the record producer was quoted as saying.
Yang even compared Chrisha Choo’s performance with another contestant, Lee Soo Min, saying, “I hope this showed Lee Soo Min she has a long way to go.”
YG Entertainment is behind some of the biggest K-pop acts to gain international fame, such as Psy, Big Bang, 2NE1, WINNER, iKON and BLACKPINK.
Park of JYP was equally impressed, saying, “She’s like a real star when she sings and dances, she shines.”
For K-Pop Star’s final season, organizers decided to lift the restriction on existing trainees, allowing anyone with talent to enter the competition. The eventual winner from the tough contest will be debuted and promoted by the three companies.
Win or lose, it certainly looks like Chrisha Choo is on her way to K-Pop superstardom real soon.
