Emmy and Grammy-nominated comedian Margaret Cho is joining the cast of the upcoming romantic dark comedy “Evilou.”
According to Deadline, Cho, 54, will star alongside DJ Qualls (“The Man in the High Castle”) and Marisé Álvarez (“Obi-Wan Kenobi”) in the directorial debut of Andrew Zappin, who also wrote the film’s script.
“Evilou” revolves around Lou Vile (Qualls), a cynical podcaster who vehemently opposes love. When he develops romantic feelings for an enchanting single mother (Álvarez), he willingly undergoes a medical procedure that changes his personality so that he can capture her heart.
Cho will portray the boss of Earwig Media, Lou’s desired workplace that initially rejects him before his transformation occurs.
The film is currently in production in Los Angeles and will be released in 2024.
Producer David J. Phillips expressed his excitement to Deadline about the film.

Andrew Zappin has written an incredibly unique and refreshing script that captures the absurdity of the human condition. And we’re delighted that the incredibly underrated DJ Qualls is the film’s lead. Coupling his talent with the rooted emotional range of Marisé Álvarez and now the comedic genius of Margaret Cho puts us in perfect position to bring Andrew’s fun and thought-provoking script to its full potential.

The film premieres on Thursday on Disney Channel and on Friday on Disney+
Cho is currently on her multi-city comedy tour “Live and Livid,” which will conclude in Irvine, California, in September.
