A man in India was captured on surveillance camera praying to a Hindu goddess before stealing the temple’s donation box.

In Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, a shirtless man with a face covering can be seen in surveillance footage entering a temple’s inner sanctum and praying to the Hindu goddess Lakshmi before stealing the donation box. 

The video went viral on social media, with many users sympathizing with the man who they believe may be in great need. Some netizens assume that he might have stolen the donation box out of necessity, noting that he prayed for forgiveness before committing the crime. 

He reportedly stole three donation boxes from the temple, according to the local media reports. The man also stole two big bells among other items that either belonged to the temple or were given to the goddess as an offering.

Police are currently searching for the thief with the help of the surveillance footage.
