An Instagram post with job application tips from a newly hired Google employee has gone viral.
On Friday, Instagram user Advin Roy Netto (@advinroynetto) posted a video about finally clearing his Google interview.
In the wholesome clip, which has already amassed over 2.7 million views and 196,000 likes, his mother and wife can be seen reacting happily to his good news.
Netto noted in his post’s caption that he has been applying to Google since 2013. After almost a decade of rejections, the digital creator took to Instagram to share how he made his dream come true.
“We generally see the good side of any story on social media,” Netto wrote. “What we need to understand is the effort that went behind it. … Every year, when I don’t hear back [from Google], I check what’s wrong with me. I tried to make changes in my resume and portfolio and try again.”
“After a certain point, I thought I didn’t have a degree from a reputed design college, which could be one of the reasons,” he continued. “I don’t have control over that, but I have control over improving my portfolio and resume. So after several failed attempts, here I am.”
Near the end of his post’s caption, Netto included a list of tips and important lessons he learned throughout his Google application journey.
Beyond UI UX designs, I do artwork and experimental designs and write blogs. Google has to process 70k- 1L applications weekly, and only ~144 people will get the job. To get shortlisted, showcase your passion for what you do,” he said.
“Ask someone you know to review your portfolio, do a mock interview,” tip read.
Several Instagram users commented on Netto’s video after it went viral.
Congratulations! Your story is inspiring millions Already,” one user wrote.
“Congratulations on achieving your dream and best wishes for a successful career & life ahead. The smile on mom’s face says it all.. Priceless!!” another user said.
This should be a commercial for Google so precious,” another user commented.
