Hong Kong singer Lucas Wong has announced his departure from K-pop boy group NCT and its Chinese sub-group WayV.
The announcement was made in Chinese, Korean and English through his personal Instagram account on Wednesday. The decision comes after a year and a half of hiatus, following accusations of cheating and gaslighting made by two women he dated.
In his post, Wong expressed sadness he would no longer be with his long-time NCT and WayV bandmates.

I have made the difficult decision to part ways with the group NCT and WayV. I sincerely feel sorry for the members, and it is with a heavy heart that I leave behind a long-standing friendship. It has been nearly 8 years since I first joined the members, and I am deeply grateful for their care and support. I will cherish these memories and never forget. I hope that the members will remember me as Huang Xuxi, not just Lucas.

He also hinted at possible solo endeavors and said he would take efforts to better himself.

Moving forward, I intend to muster the courage to face the fans who have been waiting for me and to pursue individual endeavors. I believe the best way to repay the fans who support me is by continuing to deliver outstanding performances. I will strive to become a more mature Huang Xuxi and an even better Lucas.

SM Entertainment confirmed Wong’s departure from both groups. In its statement, the agency said that the decision was reached after discussions with the singer.

“We made a mutual decision to part ways with the groups NCT and WayV to pursue his individual endeavors,” they said.

Wong was also a member of the SM Entertainment supergroup SuperM, which includes other popular K-pop stars such as Baekhyun, Kai, Taeyong, Ten, Mark and Taemin. It is currently unclear whether he will continue as a member of SuperM in the future.
