A man has been arrested in connection with a violent robbery and attack on an elderly employee of a shop in Los Angeles’ Chinatown last month.
Key details: The suspect, identified as Courtland Thornton, 31, was arrested in Hawthorne, California, on Friday, The Los Angeles Police Department noted that the man tried to evade officers by hiding in a backyard.
What happened: A surveillance camera captured the incident that occurred in Angies Boutique on N. Broadway in Los Angeles’ Chinatown on Sept. 14. The footage shows Thornton robbing the smoke shop and attacking the elderly employee as she tries to stop the man.
The victim, Van Huynh, had to be hospitalized for the injuries she sustained during the attack. Huynh has reportedly recovered from her injuries since then.
Other details: Thornton reportedly took off from the shop with an unknown amount of items and money.
The man is currently being held on $80,000 bail. Detectives with the LAPD are also investigating Thornton’s connection with other robbery incidents.
