An old Japanese ad featuring Paris Saint-Germain football star Lionel Messi has left netizens in stitches after it resurfaced on social media and went viral last month.
Messi, who has over 371 million followers on Instagram, has been offered several endorsement deals by world-renowned companies throughout his career, from Pepsi and Lay’s to Adidas.
In 2013, the 35-year-old athlete became the face of Angfa Scalp-D facial wash. In the company’s two-part ad campaign, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner can be heard speaking in Japanese.

A video of the ad resurfaced after several Instagram and Twitter users re-shared it last month.
Messi speaking Japanese is still one of the funniest thing you’ll see today,” @Troll_Fotballl wrote in an Oct. 10 tweet that has already garnered over 1.3 million views and 14,900 likes.

What did I just watch?” Instagram football meme channel @Footebate wrote in its post’s caption on Oct. 11, accompanied by tears of joy emojis. The Instagram post has garnered over 13.5 million views and 958,000 likes as of this writing.
Several Instagram users could not contain their laughter after watching the Argentina national team captain in the ad.
