UCI Student Arrested at LAX Trying to Flee to China After Allegedly Sexually Assaulting Minor

A 20-year-old man accused of sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl was apprehended at the Los Angeles International Airport while “attempting to return” to China on Feb. 22.
Li Gaoyang, who goes by Gary, was first arrested on Feb. 6 but was released pending further investigation.
Li, a freshman at the University of California, Irvine is suspected of sexually assaulting the underage victim in September 2018.
According to court records, the two met through the Chinese dating app Tantan and continued to talk on WeChat before agreeing to meet in person.

The victim accused Li of forcing her to perform oral sex, FOX 11 reported.
On Jan. 29, he allegedly contacted her again and attempted to extort money, threatening to publish a video of the act if she did not pay him.
Li and his alleged victim met through Tantan, a Chinese-made dating app.
Li is also a suspect in another sexual battery case. He is currently held at Orange County Jail on a $1 million bail.
