LAPD Rearrests Man For Brutally Attacking Grandmother in Koreatown

A homeless man was rearrested and charged with one felony count of elder abuse in the Feb. 10 beating of 86-year-old Mi Reum Song from Koreatown in Los Angeles, authorities said Wednesday.

Richard Rene Colomo, 41, of Bell Gardens, was taken into custody on Tuesday after the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office issued a warrant for his arrest on Feb. 22 and filed the charges on Feb. 27, according to a news release.

“The charge includes an allegation that the defendant personally inflicted great bodily injury and two allegations of previous felony convictions,” a DA spokesperson told ABC7.

Colomo was being held in lieu of $80,000 bail, according to online inmate records.

Song sustained heavy injuries to the face and head on Feb. 10 while she was walking to a grocery store in the Olympic Boulevard and Vermont Avenue area of Koreatown, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Colomo approached her and punched her in the face, causing her to fall on the pavement. The suspect fled, but the brutal attack was caught on a surveillance camera.

Colomo was initially arrested on Feb. 13 following several tips from the locals. However, he was released on Feb. 16, about a week after the assault, as prosecutors reviewed the case.

Officers from the LAPD’s Olympic Division later located and rearrested Colomo, who is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

It is unclear what new evidence caused the L.A. County district attorney’s office to file charges against Colomo, according to CBS Los Angeles.
