A 73-year-old landlady in Taiwan was sentenced to 40 days in jail after being found guilty of spying on men renting her suite, according to recent reports.
What she did: The senior’s scheme was exposed after a man surnamed Chen and his friend rented the suite in Taichung City back in April. Shortly after they settled, they found strange-looking “hooks” under the TV and in the bathroom, according to TVBS.
Realizing that the hooks were connected to cameras, Chen immediately called the police. Authorities arrived at the scene and recovered the planted cameras, as well as memory cards and a charger.
The aftermath: The landlady, surnamed Xiao, admitted to installing the spy cameras but did not reveal her motive. The matter was eventually brought to court, which later found her guilty of invasion of privacy.
The sentence: The parties reportedly failed to agree on a settlement. As a result, Xiao, who had no prior convictions, was sentenced to 40 days in jail and fined 40,000 Taiwanese dollars ($1,200), as per Liberty Times Net.
