Korean Artist Perfectly Captures The Magic of Falling in Love
By Ryan General
Among the many things that make love worthwhile to those who partake in it are the times spent being together, and sometimes being apart.
That is why capturing such fleeting moments in pictures are powerful as they encapsulate not only the imagery, but also the emotion behind them.
Young Joo Kim’s illustrations, which depict the life of a young couple in love, deliver such magic.
In Kim’s one-panel comics, she features Soso and Haru, the two adorable characters she created for her ongoing illustration series.
Using monochrome with an occasional dash of red or pink hues, the pictures are done in a minimalistic style, which makes them all the more captivating.
The silent characters are shown living their love story through heartwarming moments.
In one drawing, Soso and Haru can be seen traveling together, while in another, they are locked in a sweet embrace as they sleep.
One can almost feel the actual heartbreak of the characters when Kim draws one of them alone, longing for an absent partner.
While neither of the characters speak in the drawings, their actions speak volumes of the beautiful bond between them.
Simple gestures such as handing out an umbrella, covering another person with a jacket, or fixing one’s lightbulb are all acts of affection that many people can relate to.
Which one is your favorite?
