South Korean actor Kim Sae-ron, 21, apologized on Thursday for drunk driving the day before and will be withdrawing from her upcoming K-drama series “Trolley.”
At around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Kim was arrested by Gangnam police for driving under the influence after several citizens reported that her vehicle was “noticeably swerving on the road” in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, in Seoul. She also reportedly crashed into a structure.
Kim reportedly refused to have her blood alcohol content measured at the scene and requested to undergo a blood test at the hospital. She was taken to the Gangnam police station where was booked under charges of drunk driving.
“Kim Sae-ron has been booked under the charges of drunk driving this morning. After the blood is drawn, we will request the National Forensic Service to check the alcohol concentration in the blood,” a source from the Gangnam police station stated per Soompi.
The 21-year-old actor’s agency, Gold Medalist, released an official apology letter on May 19 stating that Kim is regretful for her actions and that she has decided to withdraw from her role in the upcoming K-drama series “Trolley.” The production team of “Trolley” has confirmed that they are looking to replace Kim Sae-ron in light of her exit.
“First of all, we apologize for the delay in the official position because it took time to figure out the exact facts. We apologize,” said Gold Medalist.  “Kim Sae-ron is deeply reflecting on her mistakes. In addition, Kim Sae Ron sincerely apologizes to the many people who have suffered damage and inconvenience and to all those who are working hard to restore damaged public facilities. We promise to do our best in recovering from the damage.”
The statement also explained that Kim completed her blood test on on Wednesday and is fully cooperating with police in the investigation. According to the agency, the blood test results are expected to be released in two weeks.
Following the news of her DUI charge, Kim faces possible lawsuits from production companies because of her exit from “Trolley.” It is speculated that Kim may be sued for losses if scenes including Kim are to be reshot with a new actor.
