‘Jealous’ Stepmom Arrested After Ordering Murder and Rape of 9-Year-Old in India

Authorities arrested six people, including the victim’s stepbrother and stepmom, in connection to the gruesome crime.
According to local officials, the victim’s stepmother instructed her son, 14, and three others to rape the child in her presence.
The stepmother, who was allegedly jealous of the attention her husband was giving to his daughter, watched as the poor child was raped repeatedly.
The girl had been missing for 10 days before police found her body on Sunday in a jungle a kilometer away from her home in Baramulla district, NDTV reports.
Police reports noted that the child was tortured, eyes gouged out and her body was burnt with acid.
“It was found that the stepmother had been nursing a grudge against the second wife of her husband, and her children,” senior police officer Mir Imtiyaz Hussain was quoted as saying.
Hussain noted that after the girl was raped, she was strangled by her stepmom and m utilated by a 19-year-old man using an ax.
“The friends of the woman’s son dumped the body in the bushes and covered it with pine twigs and branches. The ax and knife have been recovered on information from the accused,” the police officer said.
The incident is the second deadly rape in Kashmir in recent months. An eight-year-old Muslim girl was also gang-raped and murdered back in April at the district of Kathua. The high-profile crime made global headlines after two ministers from the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attended a rally in support of the suspects who are Hindu.
