After taking a few years off, South Korean star Jun Ji-Hyun, also known by her English name Gianna Jun, will be making her return to acting by joining the second and third seasons of “Kingdom.”
The actress rose to fame for her role as The Girl in the romantic comedy “My Sassy Girl,” one of the highest-grossing Korean comedies ever. She took a break from acting about four years ago and gave birth to her second son in January last year.
In her entry to the popular drama series, Jun will be playing a “critical role” in the last portions of “Kingdom” season 2, according to AllKPop. Her character is expected to continue onto season 3, in which she will be among the show’s leading figures.
The original Korean drama series, which captivated worldwide audiences when it premiered on Netflix earlier this year, already boasts a star-studded cast which includes Joo Ji Hoon, Bae Doo Na, Ryu Seung Ryong and Heo Jun Ho.
Helmed by filmmaker Kim Sung Hoon (“A Hard Day”, “Tunnel”) with a script written by Kim Eun Hee (“Sign”, “Signal”), the show tells the story of a Joseon era prince whose kingdom is faced with a plague that turns humans into zombie-like creatures.
”Kingdom’s” highly-anticipated second season reportedly began filming last February and is set to start streaming on Netflix in March 2020.
