Hong Kong Protests Leader Welcomes ‘Emperor Xi’ to Meet With Protesters ‘Directly and Openly’
By Jin Hyun
A leading figure in the ongoing Hong Kong protests has recently expressed his willingness to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping “directly and openly.”
Joshua Wong took to Twitter to write, “Welcome Emperor Xi come to HK and meet with protesters directly and openly during demonstration”
Wong’s tweet was a response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s comment on the unrest in Hong Kong, which read, “If President Xi would meet directly and personally with the protesters, there would be a happy and enlightened ending to the Hong Kong problem. I have no doubt!”
The young activist has previously called on U.S. politicians to become more involved in showing support for the protesters in Hong Kong, explaining that these citizens were simply fighting for basic human rights.
In an interview with CNN, Wong stated, “From what I experienced yesterday I can now say that Hong Kong has already transformed to be a police state and Hong Kong police attempt to murder ordinary citizens.”
