This $10 Million Christmas Ad is the Most Beautiful Video You’ll Watch Today

This inspirational Christmas ad about a little girl and a man on the moon is a sure tearjerker. Directed by British retailer John Lewis and released Nov. 5, the two-minute clip has garnered nearly 11 million views on YouTube.

“The Man on the Moon” is a story of a young girl, Lily, on Earth who yearns to connect with an old man who is living by himself on the desolate moon. Her gesture in the ad touches upon the subject of loneliness that elderly people often face in society today.

The ad creatively illustrates the meaningfulness of finding a special gift and also encourages others to connect and reach out to one another in the upcoming holiday season. In partnership with charity Age UK, John Lewis will be donating proceeds from selected Christmas merchandise sales to the organization.

Craig Inglis, customer director at John Lewis, said:

“We hope it inspires people to find really special gifts for their loved ones and through our partnership with Age UK, raise awareness of the issue of loneliness among older people and encourages others to support in any way they can.”

The ad cost $10.5 million and took seven months to produce.  The song featured in the video, “Half the World Away,” was originally written by Oasis and performed by Aurora.
