A 33-year-old man who opened a door for a grandmother trying to enter a bakery in Seogwipo on Jeju Island, South Korea has been arrested on charges of manslaughter, police said.
The man came to the bakery at 1:50 p.m. on May 16 when he encountered the 76-year-old woman struggling to open the entrance door, Daum reported.
The grandmother, who was holding a cane, was still holding onto the door handles when she lost her balance and fell.
She reportedly sustained a severe head injury and was rushed to a local hospital where she later passed away.
CCTV footage confirmed that the elderly woman was grabbing the handle to open the door of the bakery.
“I tried to help the grandmother who could not open the door, but I am sorry that this is the case,” the man told the police officers who conducted an investigation.
The man was charged with negligent manslaughter.
