A 32-year-old Japanese man met a tragic death when he fell off a bridge right after asking for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage.
The unfortunate twist of fate took place at the scenic Irabu bridge in Okinawa, southern Japan, around midnight on September 4th. The man had allegedly been drinking before the grim incident. His girlfriend was driving their car to the 3,540-meter bridge; when they arrived, he subsequently proposed to her. After his girlfriend accepted his proposal, he allegedly leaped over the bridge’s railing but lost his grip and fell from a height of about 30 meters, HuffPost Japan reported.

The man’s girlfriend immediately called the police to report the incident; some netizens, however, were skeptical at her account. One commented (via
AsiaOne):
“Is it really true what the girl reported? Maybe she refused the marriage proposal and he jumped to death from the bridge?”
Others offered their opinions on the timing of his death in an unfeeling manner:
“The girl is so unlucky, it should have happened after the marriage so that she would be able to get his insurance payout.”
“The girl is so lucky not to get married with such a careless, stupid man.”
The man was found dead 18 meters underwater around 7:00 a.m. He had been working as a caregiver before the incident.
