New Japanese Device Would Let Dads ‘Breastfeed’ Their Babies

A new device developed by a Japanese company aims to make it easier for dads to help out when feeding their baby and putting them to sleep.

The Dentsu Group, which created the wearable breastfeeding device called the “Father’s Nursing Assistant,” noted that it will allow fathers to comfortably nurse their children.

Unveiled this year at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, the contraption has been described as an “infant breastfeeding and sleep inducement device for fathers.”

The “Father’s Nursing Assistant,” which remains a concept device at the moment, was presented at SXSW as part of The Dentsu Group’s “Pointless Brings Progress” project.

The company noted that the machine brings two starkly different ideas together to illustrate “the belief that it is possible to change the future.”

On its website, the company stated that the device aims to encourage fathers to play a more active role in taking care of their children. It further noted how it will “decrease the amount of burden on mothers and increase the amount of time infants sleep by enabling fathers to breastfeed.”

According to the company, the difficulties of breastfeeding and the infants’ sleeping habits can cause parental stress.

The device is modeled after a woman’s breast and heated to simulate the warmth of the mother’s body and provide maximum comfort for the child. It is accompanied by an app that monitors and tracks the baby’s milk consumption and sleeping patterns.

Not only does it track the baby’s feeding habits, but the device also vibrates when the baby is feeding to help induce sleep.
