Indian Woman Allegedly Asks Men to Rape a Group of Girls Because One of Them Was Wearing a Skirt

A middle-aged woman recently earned the ire of a group of young women in India

A clip of the group confronting the older woman inside a mall in Gurgaon city has gone viral online and since generated discussions on social media.

In the widely-shared footage, the group can be heard telling the woman to apologize or else they would make her go “viral.”

“This middle-aged woman you’ll see in the video addressed seven men at the restaurant to rape us because she felt we deserved it for wearing short clothes and bashing her unsolicited opinion,” Facebook user Shivani Gupta wrote in the description of the nine-minute-long video.

The group accused the woman of gathering seven men and asking them to “rape” them because she believed their attire supposedly invited such acts.

Gupta further noted that she and her friends decided to confront the woman and demand an apology from her.

“Apologise right now. I will make your life a living hell if you don’t apologize, I promise you that. I will make you viral,” one of the girls can be heard saying in the video.

As the middle-aged woman tried to walk away and avoid the group, they simply followed her until they cornered her at a store inside the mall.

A couple of adult women also voiced their support for the girls and berated the older woman for passing the blame of rape culture onto a woman’s choice of clothing.

The woman eventually spoke up after being followed for minutes.

“Hello guys, these ladies want to wear short to short dress to encourage all to see them. Theek hai? Wow, very good. All the ladies wear the shorter dress or naked to (be) raped. Hi all, if you are the parents, please control the girls (sic),” she said while looking directly at the cameras focused on her.

While some criticized the young women for their aggressive stance toward the middle-aged woman, most netizens lamented over how many people still choose to blame the rape victims instead of the rapists themselves.

“A six-year-old girl got raped, an old woman of above 65 got raped and even a goat (an animal) got raped. After all of this happening to anybody, one would really think that clothing has to do anything with this?” a netizen pointed out. “The thing is this kind of mentality is a worm that has eaten her mind completely and she should apologize for her words to not only those girls she was pointing but to all the girls, and women out there watching this”

“Rape has got nothing to do with a woman’s clothing!!! NOTHING! It’s just the rapist’s intentions which causes rape and NOTHING else,” another chimed in.

After the incident went viral, the middle-aged woman reportedly made a public apology. In response, Gupta took to Instagram to acknowledge the apology and encouraged netizens to stop the spread of hate.
