India has been depleted of resources to combat the pandemic and now has the highest daily coronavirus count on the globe after a surge in COVID-19 cases.

The South Asian country has recorded nearly 380,000 new daily cases as of April 29, according to Quartz. The cause of the recent surge is a variant of COVID-19 called B.1.1.7, the New York Times reported.

As of this writing, there have been 222,408 deaths in India, according to data from Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Research Center.

President Joe Biden announced on April 25 that the U.S. will be sending funding for vaccine manufacturers, medical equipment and supplies to produce vaccines.
