In the original video, posted by @usukoo, a woman named Hang introduces herself, as part of an English homework assignment.
She enthusiastically proclaims, “I’m Vietnamese, I’m Vietnamese, I’m from Vietnam” and expresses national pride, saying she’s from “a great nation” and “loves her people.” Hang goes on to say she “loves speaking English” even if she isn’t “the smartest in the world” or “most talented,” and that she practices often and pushes herself mentally, emotionally and physically.
The poster captioned the video, “Không nhìn sub xem các bạn nghe được hết k nhé,” asking how many could understand her English without reading the subtitles in the video.
Since being uploaded on March 19, the video has now accumulated over 25,000  likes and 334,000 views.
In response, many users complimented Hang for her bravery in practicing and putting herself out there.
User @mtmt05122019 commented, “Nhưng thật ra chị ấy dám nói và quay phim lại. Nhiều ng chê mà chẳng dám nói câu nào,” roughly translating to: “She is brave to talk and record the video. A lot of people complain about her but aren’t brave enough to say or talk about something themselves.”
Another user, @mtam63, interpreted the original caption as making fun of Hang and came to her defense, writing, “Making fun of her for actually putting in an effort and trying to learn. Not cool!” The poster @usukoo was quick to respond reassuringly, saying, “Not at all, I did appreciate her gumption to speak out.”
