New details have recently emerged surrounding the death of Huiping Wu, a 50-year-old home health attendant from Brooklyn who was the victim of a fatal mugging.
On June 24th, 2017, Wu was accosted by an unknown person who tried to steal his iPhone 7. Wu refused to give it to the thief, who then began to punch him repeatedly in the head in an attempt to force the iPhone out of his hands. Wu was left with cuts and abrasions to his mouth, police said.
Wu was rushed to nearby Brookdale Hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries a month later on July 31st.
“They were performing surgery on his neck when he had stroke,” said Wu’s daughter, Lili Wu. “In the end he was brain dead.”
The city Medical Examiner has ruled that Wu’s death was a homicide, as his autopsy confirmed that his death was due to his injuries related to the mugging. So far, no arrests have been made, and police officers have increased their search for the person responsible for his death.
Anyone with information pertaining to Wu’s death, especially the identity of the suspect, is encouraged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
