Netizens are hailing a Hong Kong man as a hero after he placed his life on the line to save a kitten.
The good Samaritan turned out to be a local firefighter named Kwok Kin Wai, who also goes by Kevin Kwok, according to ShanghaiistA footage of Kwok’s heroic deed, posted on Chinese social media on Wednesday, immediately went viral, amassing over 1.4 million views in three days.
The video, which came from a car’s dashcam footage on Lion Rock Tunnel Road, showed the man crossing the road by signaling rush-hour traffic to stop before picking up a tiny kitten on the street. He was then seen hurrying back to his motorcycle parked on the side of the road.
Kwok later narrated the story on his Facebook page, attaching several photos of the tiny kitten.
In his post, he said he noticed something small moving on the road while riding his motorcycle. He admitted that he first thought of not stopping considering that it would be too dangerous to stop. However, he eventually decided to rescue the trapped feline. In the last part of his post, Kwok also sought for anyone who wanted to adopt the little kitten.
On Thursday, he uploaded another photo online, this time showing the new owner of the tiny kitten that he had saved.
