Legendary Filmmaker Donates $2.5 Million to Build a Nature Park Just for Children

Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki is investing $2.5 million into a philanthropic nature park just for children called “The Forest Where the Wind Returns.”
According to the Telegraph, the project is a collaboration with local design firm Kume Creation and will be located on Kume Island in Okinawa, Japan, in the Zendo Forest Park.
The project is part of a philanthropic initiative to aid children in the nearby town of Kumejima that was affected by the nuclear disaster of Fukushima in 2011. The movie-inspired nature park will include a library, a natural playground and sleeping quarters for 30 people, which is said to be reserved for children in the local town of Fukushima.
The park will be constructed with the opinions of locals and will utilize construction resources from the area.
The award-winning animator and director will be donating the park to Kumejima once it is completed in 2018. Construction is set to begin April 2016.
