In the now-viral clip shared by Soo herself, the girl named Jenna expressed excitement seeing “herself” in the movie.
“It’s me!” the girl declared while watching Soo sing “Helpless,” a track from the play’s first act.
According to Soo, this shows why the representation of people of color matters in the media.
“Little Jenna here is exactly why #representationmatters,” Soo wrote on Twitter. “I am so grateful for this show, that so many young people can watch this show and say ‘It’s me.’”
Soo credited publicist Britney Thai for sharing the adorable video.
In the clips, Jenna can be seen pointing at Soo’s character, saying, “Look, it’s me.” When told, “That’s Eliza,” the girl was adamant, simply repeating what she said: “It’s me!”
In a span of two days, the sweet video has generated over two million views, 16,000 retweets, a hundred thousand likes and hundreds of comments from Twitter users.
“Hamilton” the film features scenes from the hit musical, which earned 16 Tony nominations back in 2016. A brainchild of actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, the version of the musical portrays the Founding Fathers with a diverse set of actors.
The show, which Miranda has touted as a “story about America then, as told by America now,” has long been cheered for representation in its casting of predominantly people of color.
Miranda himself also posted the video of Jenna along with a breaking-heart emoji.
