Groom Arrested After Revealing He is Transgender on Wedding Night in India

The man, identified as 25-year-old Sri Ram from Kerala, India, was arrested for not coming clean after his wife told her parents. Her family then filed a report to the police that led to his arrest, according to The Star.

Sri Ram had been in a relationship with the woman, who was his girlfriend at the time prior to the wedding, for seven years. Before officially tying the knot, the woman’s parents greatly objected their relationship, but later changed their mind and allowed the two to get married.

However, something peculiar happened on the day of the wedding when Sri Ram’s parents failed to show up. He was able to convince his girlfriend’s family to proceed with the ceremony.

Despite the terrible news, Kerala still saw its first successful transgender wedding this year.

Ishan, a 33-year-old who recently went through a female-to-male surgery, and his wife, 31-year-old Surya, who previously had a male-to-female surgery, recently tied the knot in India with both of their families’ blessing. They are both members of the Transgender Justice Board in Kerala, according to Mathrubhumi News. They were wed under the Special Marriage Act on May 10, 2018.
