“Crazy Rich Asians” star Gemma Chan will launch her first global campaign for L’Oréal Paris this month after becoming the French cosmetic company’s new partner.
The 35-year-old actress joined L’Oréal Paris after the company announced the news on Nov. 17. She is joined by other Hollywood A-listers, including Eva Longoria, Viola Davis and Helen Mirren, according to US Magazine. L’Oréal currently tops the list of the world’s biggest beauty brands with annual sales of just under $30 billion.
Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, Chan said she feels right at home as part of the L’Oreal Paris family as the company is well-known for its history of women empowerment.
“I feel so excited and honored to be asked to join the L’oreal family – they have such a history of uplifting and empowering women so in that sense it feels like a good fit,” she said. “I suppose the expression ‘because you’re worth it’ resonates today just as much as it has done before. I feel it’s so important for young women, women of all ages really, to have that self-worth and to value themselves.”
Chan will promote the L’Oréal Paris’ Revitalift Derm Intensives later this month which will be available for purchase starting Dec. 4.
In her Instagram post, Chan recounted how she watched her mother use her L’Oréal Paris products as a child and described beauty as a creative expression.
“Some of my earliest childhood memories of beauty are of wandering into my mum’s bedroom into a cloud of Elnett hairspray and watching her put on her red L’Oreal lipstick,” Chan wrote. “Beauty to me is about creative expression and self care, leaving you feeling good on the inside as well as the outside.. and celebrating each of us in all our diversity.”
Delphine Viguier-Hovasse, the global brand president of L’Oréal Paris, said Chan is a source of inspiration for young women to follow their dreams.
“Gemma Chan is proof of the success that happens when you have the confidence to follow your own dreams, and speak up for others to be able to follow theirs,” Viguier-Hovasse said. “Committed to her causes with innate female strength, she’s a source of inspiration beyond the screen, for young women to be the change. We’re delighted to welcome Gemma to the family.”
