Chinese swimmers at this year’s Olympics in Rio have been getting a lot of attention, from the chiseled Ning Zetao to the “drug cheat” scandal surrounding Sun Yang. But now a female Chinese swimmer has the attention of the internet after winning hearts with her bubbly reaction when she learns she won a bronze medal with her time.
Swimmer Fu Yuanhui swam a time of 58.95 seconds in the women’s 100-meter backstroke semi-finals and swam even faster in the finals with a time of 58.76. At the time she was interviewed, she didn’t know she had raced under 59 seconds and certainly didn’t think she won a medal.
Watch her roller coaster of disbelief and joy unfold (with English subtitles):
Her reaction spread on Weibo shortly after where her infectious happiness was shared by all.
