Sony Pictures Television and game developer Square Enix have reportedly begun production on a non-animated Final Fantasy series.
The upcoming TV adaptation, to be co-produced with production company Hivemind, will be the first live-action production featuring the iconic video game franchise, Variety reports.
While the official title and plot details for the show remain under wraps, its story will reportedly be set in a world first introduced in “Final Fantasy XIV” called Eorzea.
The “Final Fantasy” franchise has reached 15 iterations to date, selling over 144 million units so far. It has been adapted numerous times as an animated show.
The new series will reportedly “explore the struggle between magic and technology in a quest to bring peace to a land in conflict.”

Familiar characters and creatures from the games, including the adorable chocobos, are set to make their appearance alongside new ones in the new series.
Hivemind, which will be co-producing the show with Sony and Square Enix, is just about to wrap up “The Witcher” series at Netflix, another live-action video game adaptation which stars Henry Cavill.
