Filipino Pilot Surprises Parents With Touching Announcement Before Their First Flight Together

A touching moment featuring a Filipino pilot surprising his parents on board during their flight together is capturing netizens’ hearts on social media.

Genesis Bernardo, a pilot for AirAsia, shared a video clip of their precious moment taken during a flight from the Philippines to Taiwan on February 20.

“Good morning ladies and gentlemen from the flight deck, this is Genesis Bernardo, your captain speaking,” the pilot greeted through the intercom.

The priceless expressions from both their mom and dad as the pilot began addressing the passengers were captured in the video taken by his brother, Joshua Bernardo.

After the pilot made his customary pre-flight routine, he segued into paying a short but sweet tribute to his parents.

“I would like to take this opportunity to welcome two very important persons in my life, Mr. Paul Bernardo and Mrs. Solly Bernardo, my Dad and my Mom.”

It was truly a moment of pride for Mr. and Mrs. Bernardo, who were both listening intently while apparently holding back tears.

Genesis noted that it had always been his dream to have his parents as his passengers.

“I would like to thank you for loving me unconditionally as your son, and for teaching me to do my best in everything that I do. I also thank you for inspiring me to never stop dreaming big. And making me believe that everything is possible as long as you have faith,” he added.

“You are one of the biggest reasons why I am here commanding a flight and flying this airplane.”

“It’s truly an honor and my pleasure to have you on board. I’m so proud of you for bringing me where I am right now. And I also hope to make you proud,” Bernardo added.

He also greeted his brother who was celebrating his birthday at the time. “Happy Birthday bro, I’m very glad to have you on board for the very first time with Ms. Mirel Domingo.”

“Cheers to all the parents who’s always been an inspiration to their kids and to everyone who’s been inspired by their parents to achieve their dreams.”

In a later post, Joshua revealed that while they planned the “surprise” flight beforehand, his brother pulled a trick on him to make him believe that he wasn’t going to be on the scheduled flight.

“Weeks before our trip I was requesting my brother Genesis to get the scheduled flight so I can have a picture at the cockpit with him (a dream of the birthday boy),” Joshua wrote. “But the main reason was really for our parents to experience the flight with their son as the commander (a dream beyond the wildest). A day before our flight, my brother and I went to a mall to buy some clothes for a wedding. While we were wandering around he told me that he didn’t get the flight. He was assigned on another flight bound for Incheon on the same day and same time.”

“A little bit frustrated thinking maybe it’s not yet the right time. But hey this guy right here, my brother, never failed to make surprises. He has this talent making him a good actor ever since or a good liar I would say.”

In the end, the surprise was a success, with the proud parents sharing the moment with the passengers who began cheering and clapping when the pilot was finished with his message.

“Never miss every moment with your family. Make time for them. Make them proud,” Joshua further noted in his post. “It will be the greatest gift you can give. They are your biggest treasure in life. Be grateful for having them. By the end of the day, the word “regret” will not be in your dictionary anymore.”
