An actress in China was fat-shamed online after her co-star stumbled a few steps while trying to carry her during the filming of a Chinese drama.
Li Landi can be seen laughing as her male co-star, Xin Yunlai, struggled in the behind-the-scenes footage of “Dreaming Back to the Qing Dynasty.”
Posted on the show’s Weibo account, the video further revealed that in the scene, the 20-year-old actress was actually sitting on a ladder lifted by two crew members.

Weibo users soon flooded the post with comments criticizing the actress for being “too fat” to play the character.
Some commented that Li Landi’s weight gain resulted in her round face, according to AsiaOne.
According to some users, the novel that the drama was adapted from called for a “charming and beautiful” female lead.
“Is there no other actress?” commented another.
“She still dares to talk after being so fat, it really tarnishes the actor label,” one Weibo user was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, there were also those who defended Landi from her online critics.
“Even if she’s fat, she weighs 50 kg (110 lbs) at most. I think the male actor is just too weak to carry her,” one commented.

Landi explained that her face did look round during filming due to a schedule that made her “days and nights feel like a blur.” She noted that the hectic workdays caused some bloating due to hormonal imbalance.

Prior to the release of the viral clip, many had already expressed opposition to Landi’s casting. Immediately after it was announced that Landi would be playing the female lead in the drama, some complained that she was “not pretty enough” for the role.
“Dreaming Back to the Qing Dynasty” was aired on December 14.
