Chinese actress Fan Bingbing is appearing in a K-drama for the first time.
Fan recently completed shooting her scenes for a new South Korean series from television network JTBC titled “Insider,” reported Korea Herald.
As of yet, it remains unknown whether the actor’s role is merely a cameo or a minor supporting character.
“Though the actor has joined ‘Insider,’ detailed information about Fan Bingbing’s role is yet to be revealed, as it is closely related with the plot and storyline of the series,” a representative from JTBC was quoted as saying.
“Insider” follows the story of a judicial apprentice named Kim Yo-han (played by actor Kang Ha-neul) who gets embroiled in conducting an undercover investigation. The action thriller, which is set for a 2022 release in Korea, will revolve around the character’s attempt at redemption.
An official from JTBC told Bbangya News that Fan stayed in Korea after her scenes’ filming, which was conducted in a secure manner.
Fan, who is regarded as one of China’s most famous and highest-paid movie stars, was out of public view for months in 2018 following tax evasion accusations, as NextShark previously reported.
Following a four-year acting hiatus, Fan recently made her big-screen return in the ensemble cast of “355,” which she co-leads with Jessica Chastain, Penélope Cruz, Lupita Nyong’o and Sebastian Stan, among others.
