French luxury goods company and fashion house Louis Vuitton is releasing an elegant face shield that comes with gold studs next month.
The face shield will come with an elastic, monogrammed headband and a shield attached by golden studs engraved with the famous LV logo, according to Vanity Fair. The shield itself can be moved upwards to turn it into a peaked hat.
The French fashion house described the shield that comes equipped with transition lens technology to protect the wearer from the sun. The brand describes the product as “an eye-catching headpiece, both stylish and protective.”
The LV face shield is set to be released on October 30 as part of its 2021 Cruise collection.
Although it does look fashionable, its effectiveness against the COVID-19 pandemic remains a big question.
Speaking to InStyle, Arefa Cassoobhoy, M.D., MPH, Senior Medical Director at WebMD said face shields are used as an extra layer of protection.
“It’s reasonable to add a face shield if you want an extra layer of protection, especially if you’re in a high-risk situation, like caring for someone sick with COVID-19 or working in an environment that requires close contact with others,” Cassoobhoy said, adding “there should not be any gap between your forehead and the headpiece.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does not recommend the use of face shields as a substitute for masks. The LV mask seems to follow CDC guidelines for the shields, as it wraps around the face and extends below the chin.
