A babysitter was recently arrested by local authorities in central China after a surveillance camera caught her beating a toddler inside an elevator.
In the shocking footage, a mother can be seen waving to her crying child. The moment the elevator doors close shut, the 42-year-old babysitter starts hitting the toddler in the chest, head and back, apparently to stop the child from crying.
According to People’s Daily (via MailOnline), the nanny, identified only as Ms. Li, physically abused the child at around 5 p.m. on Dec. 5 in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. It was not reported, however, whether the child was a boy or a girl.
In the 1-minute footage, Li can be seen initially raising her hands to threaten the child before she proceeded to violently land punches to the stomach multiple times. She then hit the child’s head with powerful blows and finally shook the child in the end.

The video immediately went viral as angered netizens shared it on Chinese social media, sparking outrage online, with many condemning the sitter’s behavior.
“These incidents can happen anytime, anywhere and it’s best to report every single one to mass media and the police,” said a Weibo commenter.“Does the woman have any children?” one netizen asked. “How can she do this to a young child?”
An investigation soon followed after the parents reported the incident to the police.
The Zhengzhou police released a statement confirming the details of the incident, noting that Li was arrested for “causing grievous bodily harm with intent” to the child.
