A 19-year-old Taiwanese student was pronounced dead on arrival after he accidentally got ran over by a huge truck in New Taipei’s Taishan District, Taiwan. Police are now looking into the case.
The student, who was only identified by his surname Huang, was passed out drunk on a sidewalk on the night of the accident, which happened at 11 p.m. on October 16, according to UDN.
The driver, surname Wu, was shocked when his truck hit something on his front right tire as he was about to leave. However, the 58-year-old driver thought it was just a rock so he ran over it again, as translated by Taiwan News. Little did he know, the “rock” that he thought of was actually Huang’s abdomen, which he ran over two times.
Another person, a student known as Chiang, was also at the scene when it happened. But just like Wu, he didn’t know that Huang was hit. He told the driver “it shouldn’t be anything.”
However, Wu was still curious to find out what he hit. The driver got out of his truck and saw Huang under the truck.
He tried to ask Huang repeatedly if he’s okay but sadly, the Lee-Ming Institute of Technology student wasn’t responding to his voice.
Before leaving the scene, Wu called in the ambulance to take Huang to Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. Unfortunately, Huang was pronounced dead at 12:18 a.m. by the attending physicians.
Authorities are now investigating Wu for negligent homicide as well as fleeing the scene of the crime before the police could arrive where Huang was ran over.
