A man standing on the roof of a driverless car that had been running for 600 meters (0.37 miles) was caught on camera in China.
The scene took place in Bengbu, Anhui province, eastern China on Aug. 26.
The man, reportedly drunk, was able to control the steering wheel with his feet and pass through a crossing, People’s Daily noted.
After seeing the police, the man immediately jumped back to his seat and tried to escape, but he was caught.
The dangerous act appears to be coming from excitement, as the man explained that he just closed a big business deal.
With regulations yet to be finalized, driverless cars are currently banned on China’s roads. In July, Baidu CEO Robin Li caught the attention of authorities after driving the company’s autonomous vehicle to a conference.
Promising an investigation, Beijing’s Traffic Management Bureau said that it supports “innovative driverless technology, however it should be carried out in accordance with the law, security and science.”
For his stunt, the man was charged with reckless driving and DUI, and faces a maximum detention of six months.
