Taco Bell is set to release “Mexican Pizza: the Musical,” starring Doja Cat and Dolly Parton, to celebrate the return of the beloved dish to its menus.
Taco Bell previously discontinued its Mexican Pizza in November 2020, but after over 171,000 superfans, including a substantial number of Indian Americans, signed a Change.org petition urging the company to bring it back, the chain finally announced in April its return.
Grammy award-winning rapper Doja Cat had strongly advocated for the return of Mexican Pizza, even writing a song on TikTok to declare her love for the tasty creation.
Mexican Pizza is expected to appear once again in participating stores across the United States, Aruba, Costa Rica and Dominican Republic on May 19.
The hype for Mexican Pizza does not stop there. Inspired by Doja Cat’s “Mexican Pizza” song, Taco Bell announced yesterday that they will put on “Mexican Pizza: the Musical” – a satirical musical about how Mexican Pizza lovers fought for the return of the beloved menu item.
Doja Cat will be featured in the musical alongside country icon and longtime Taco Bell superfan Dolly Parton, who hinted at her participation on Instagram.
Victor Kunda, a TikTok comedian who had already imagined what a musical rehearsal for Doja Cat’s “Mexican Pizza” song might have looked like, announced that he would also play a role in the upcoming musical.
“Obi-Wan Kenobi” writer Hannah Friedman wrote the script alongside Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, the Grammy-winning duo behind “The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical,” who wrote the score.
“Mexican Pizza: The Musical” is set to premiere on TikTok on May 26 at 8 p.m. EST.
