Father in Japan Arrested for Using Dog Shock Collar to Discipline His Children

The 45-year-old man, whose name was not revealed, admitted to the police that he had used a stun device on his children, two daughters aged 11 and 13, and a 11-year-old son, when they disobeyed his rules, a police official told Reuters via Japan Today.

Fortunately, the girls did not suffer any visible injuries from the corporate punishment at the hands of their father, but the boy had suffered a visible minor burn on his arm, the police added.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his cabinet passed a bill in March that will permanently put a ban on corporal punishment on children.

On Tuesday, legislators in the powerful lower house of the Diet unanimously approved the government’s plan to ban corporal punishment. If passed, Japan would be the third Asian country to institute such a ban. The other two countries are Mongolia, which passed their law in 2016 with Nepal following suit a year after that.
