Your lola could be featured in an upcoming Disney film!
A listing on the acting job portal Project Casting indicates that Walt Disney Studios is currently seeking an elderly Filipino woman for a future movie.
Applicants must be women of Filipino or Filipino American descent between the ages of 50 and 90 years old, according to this recent post by Katie Doyle Casting and Sarah Finn. Finn is an award-winning casting director best known for casting the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Although the post does not ask for any previous professional acting experience, applicants must speak fluent English and be based in Hawaii to be considered. Applicants must also have the authorization to work in the United States by being a U.S. citizen, a green card holder or an O-1 visa holder. Disney’s still-unnamed project will be filmed in Atlanta so the actress chosen for the role must be willing to fly there to work.
To apply for the role, each candidate must submit a short clip describing her family or favorite activity in English, Filipino, Tagalog or any other language of the Philippines. However, she must first introduce herself in English.
Not much is known yet about this particular Disney production, but it’s worth noting that last December, Project Casting announced that the third installment of the Spider-Man series is currently being filmed in Atlanta.
Observers speculate that the role may have a connection to the character Ned Leeds, played by Filipino American actor Jacob Batalon. In the recent Spider-Man movies, which feature Tom Holland as Peter Parker, Leeds shines as Parker’s best friend and the series’ comic relief.
