‘Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle’ shatters anime box office records

By Ryan General
“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle” opened in North America on Saturday, earning about $70 million in its first weekend to become the highest-grossing debut for an anime film in the region.
The film outperformed Hollywood titles including “The Conjuring: Last Rites,” “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale” and “The Long Walk,” setting a new benchmark for both international and animated releases in the U.S. and Canada. The record-breaking performance extended worldwide, with the film collecting approximately $132.1 million across 49 international markets during its opening weekend.
In Japan, “Infinity Castle” reached 10 billion yen ($68 million) in just eight days, surpassing the pace set by “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train,” which previously held the record as the fastest film to achieve that milestone. The film also registered the highest single-day ticket sales in Japanese box office history and secured the largest opening weekend ever recorded in the country.
