All four members of the South Korean boy group DAY6 have renewed their contracts with longtime label JYP Entertainment.
JYP Entertainment told outlets on Monday that members Young K, Wonpil, Sungjin and Dowoon are sticking with them for the foreseeable future.
“DAY6 members Sungjin, Young K, Wonpil and Dowoon have renewed their contracts with JYP Entertainment. Based on trust, DAY6 and their signature sound will be supported by JYP Entertainment and our experience in band management.” JYP Entertainment said in a statement.
With DAY6 debuting under JYP Entertainment in September 2015, the recent news breaks the notorious “seven-year curse” that many K-pop fans believes results in individual idol group members leaving or the groups disbanding entirely after their seven-year contracts expire.
Member Sungjin held a fan event to commemorate DAY6’s seventh anniversary, his first public event since he was discharged from mandatory military service earlier this month. Currently, members Wonpil, Dowoon and Young K, who make up the subunit DAY6 (Even of Day), are still serving in the military.
In August, the subunit released a summer track titled “Darling of the Beach,” which was recorded prior to their military enlistment. The song was their first new release in over a year since their second mini-album, “Right Through Me.”
