Danny Glover, Al Sharpton Call for Solidarity, Denounce Anti-Asian Violence in NYC Chinatown

Actor Danny Glover stood with the AAPI community and called for justice and action to be taken at a #StopAsianHate rally in New York City’s Chinatown.

The rally: Local healthcare union workers and Manhattan Chinatown residents rallied together in lieu of the anti-Asian violence on May 27.

“Lethal Weapon” star Danny Glover and Reverend Al Sharpton joined the rally and spoke out against Asian hate.
Sharpton told protestors they “can’t fight for George Floyd and ignore the hate that is being done in the Asian community,” reported AP News.
“We wanted to come to this community so Asian mothers can know that they don’t have to fear coming out because they have brothers and sisters that will stand with them,” said Sharpton.

Glover’s speech: Glover said he was “happy” to be present in the Chinese community in New York City during an important time, according to amNY.

The actor-turned-activist emphasized that it was critical to “be present” and “connect our stories of collective struggle.”
Glover encouraged protestors to “stand on the right side of history” and justice by standing up against hate.
He called for people to “use pain into action” and commended the crowd for taking action by participating in the rally.
