Car enthusiasts from four different groups are organizing a rally to raise awareness for the Stop Asian Hate campaign.
We Are Student Drivers, a brand founded by actors Sung Kang and Daniel Wu, is teaming up with Rob Wang’s Platinum Motorsports Lifestyle, Sean Lee’s Purist Group, and David Lee’s Hing Wa Lee Jewelers for “Stop Asian Hate Quickstrike,” a meet and drive event set on May 1, marking the first day of Asian Heritage Month.
The initiative, which Wu described to NextShark as “a march for car people,” was organized in support of the AAPI community, which has recently seen an uptick in hate-fueled attacks.
Participants are set to meet at Auto Conduct in Santa Fe Ave., Los Angeles before proceeding with the drive to the Hing Wa Lee Jewelers shop in Walnut. At the destination, organizers will be selling t-shirts to raise money for the “Stop AAPI Hate” GoFundMe campaign.
Donations will support organizations that empower and uplift the AAPI community, with initiatives such as increased community safety and support for those affected by violence. As of this writing, the campaign has raised over $5.7 million out of its $8 million goal.
In a recent post on Instagram, Wu promoted the event and invited the public to join the initiative.
“This is a chance for the car community to show how we feel about the hate that has been directed towards the Asian community,” he wrote. “So don’t be an a**hat, no burnouts, speeding or other a**hat behavior. Come out and join us to show strength and unity! This is going to be epic! #stopasianhate.”
